Venetian Plastering or Polished Plastering, has it's roots over 9000 years ago in Mesopotamia. (Between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in W Asia now known to have been in the area of Syria, Iraq and Iran). Ancient polished plaster, commonly known as Venetian Plaster, Marmorino or Stucco Veneziano has been a decorative material since around 900 BC. Used by ancient egyptians in architectural spaces, it was a product known for its durability and anti mold-mildew properties.d

Egyptian tombs were coated in a lime and gypsum plaster, the finished surface then painted and decorated with pictures and Hieroglyphics. The Pharaohs of Egypt used plaster surfaces in their palaces and pyramids. It is known that this plasterwork, and the decoration upon it, was applied more than 4,000 years ago. These plaster surfaces still exist in a hard and durable state today.
